Quality Policy Statement

The Joint Songwe River Basin Commission (SONGWECOM), established under Article 3 of the Convention on the Establishment of SONGWECOM as a fully autonomous transboundary institution of the Republic of Malawi and the United Republic of Tanzania, is committed to excellence in delivering its mandate for the sustainable management, conservation, development and equitable utilisation of the Songwe River Basin’s shared resources for the socio-economic benefit of present and future generations.

In accordance with Article 5 of the Convention, which empowers the Commission to coordinate development, mobilise partnerships, and advance joint investments and Article 9, which mandates the Secretariat to provide technical, administrative, operational and management services for implementation of the Songwe River Basin Development Programme, SONGWECOM is committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality, professionalism, accountability and institutional effectiveness in all its operations.

Our quality commitment is anchored in stakeholder focus, legal and regulatory compliance, technical excellence, innovation, transparency, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement. We shall consistently deliver responsive, efficient, evidence-based and value-driven services to the Member States, basin communities, partners, investors and all stakeholders. The Commission shall foster a culture of competence, ethical conduct, accountability, teamwork and continuous institutional learning.

SONGWECOM shall continuously strengthen its systems, processes, human capital, partnerships and digital capabilities to ensure effective implementation of transboundary programmes, infrastructure investments, climate resilience initiatives and long-term basin asset management.

Through this Quality Policy, SONGWECOM commits to positioning itself as a model African River Basin Organization, delivering transformative regional cooperation, shared prosperity and sustainable development for Malawi and Tanzania.
